Planting a Diverse and Healthy Organic Garden!

If you are considering growing your own garden, you may be interested in knowing that studies have shown that food grown organically is much higher in essential nutrients and vitamins than fruits and vegetables that are exposed to chemicals during the growing process.  Since organically grown food does not contain dangerous pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals of any kind, these foods not only taste better, they are better for you and for the environment. Organic gardening is also one of many great ways to save money. Since chemical fertilizers typically cost more than natural ways of fertilizing, you are not only saving the earth, but saving your pocketbook as well! 

Planning your garden before planting will ensure awesome results with minimal effort.  The first step to planting a diverse and healthy organic garden is to make sure your soil is prepared properly.  It is always a good idea to research the proper soil pH of the vegetables you plan to grow in your garden.  Some fruits and vegetables prefer slightly acidic soil while others do not grow well in this environment.

The next step is to prepare your soil.  A really good compost is the key to growing a great garden. By creating your own compost, you can control what fertilizes your garden’s soil. You are also creating less trash to take up space in landfills, which is always a plus.

Now you can decide on what fruits and vegetables you will be planting.  By choosing plants that thrive in your climate, your plants will naturally be able to ward off predators and will allow the plants to mature to their full potential.

Organic gardening is an art form that requires time and patience, but with a little dedication you will learn that your efforts are rewarded with a bountiful harvest that can last year round.
